About Walk of Terror - Newport News

Who: The Newport News Scottish Rite - Scottish Rite Masonry is a rite of advanced Freemasonry that expands upon the ethical and moral teachings of the Blue Lodge by conferring 29 degrees, from the 4th to the 32nd. Members, who first must be Master Masons, experience these degrees through dramatic presentations and scholarly study to deepen their understanding of Masonic philosophy and help them become better men. We are your friends and neighbors, coworkers and fellow church members often seen serving the greater good in our community.

Why: The Walk of Terror is the major fundraising event for the Newport News Scottish Rite in recent years. Our other fundraising events include an annual golf tournament in June; Spring and Fall Sausage Grind and sales; Craft and Vendor Fairs; rental of the building (social hall and auditorium).

These fundraising events enable us to provide financial support to RiteCare Scottish Rite Childhood Language Program dating back to the 1950s. The Tidewater Scottish Rite Valleys have supported the Old Dominion University Speech and Hearing Clinic which provides diagnostic and speech therapy services for adults and children with speech, language and hearing disorders.

The funds also enable us to support our Valley of Newport News Medical Equipment Center which provides durable medical equipment (hospital beds, wheelchairs, transport chairs, rollators, walkers, crutches, canes, shower chairs, potty chairs and more to those in need in our community FREE OF CHARGE. This year the Newport News Scottish Rite Medical Equipment Center is on track to provide equipment valued in excess of $700,000.00 to those in need in our area.

Your volunteer support during the Walk of Terror is greatly appreciated as we could not have the event without YOU!
